Group Visit to the Middle Temple, London

Thursday 3rd October 2019

The visit will begin at 10.30 with coffee/tea and biscuits before the guided tour which starts at 11.00 and lasts about one hour - cost £12.00. The Group is then invited to a 3-course lunch in the magnificent Elizabethan hall -cost £35.  Sir Richard Dales will lead the group and will stay for lunch. 10.30 Coffe In Clore Education Centre Foyer, under the Great Court, accessible by lifts and stairs.   

 11.00 Lecture by the curator of the Exhibition Giulia  Bartrum

12.00 Lunch Break. ( Lunch not included in the price of the ticket).

 13.30 Admission to the exhibition on Level 1, Room 35.

Programme of Vera Lynn songs sung by Sybil Richardson accompanied by Paul Gobey at the Norwegian Church, Rotherhithe

Thursday 7 March 2019 at 7.00pm, with refreshments beforehand from 6.00pm

Sybil Richardson is well-known in Norway. Supported by the Norwegian Cultural Council, she has toured the country with her programme 'We'll Meet Again'  for more than 15 years. She has travelled from Melbu in the north to Trondheim, Bergen, Stavanger and Farsund in the south, playing in large concert halls and  intimate venues.  We are now fortunate to have her singing for us here in Rotherhithe.

 This year,  as a break from tradition, we will celebrate our Carol Service on a Sunday hoping that as many as possible of the regulars from the Norwegian community will join us to mark the end of our Anniversary year.          

There will be a Buffet Lunch which includes Norwegian Christmas staples such as “ribbe” and” medisterkake “ and this will be followed by cakes, waffles and coffee.       

 For catering purposes we need to know numbers and so  ask that Members wanting to join us for the lunch fill in the booking slip in the Newsletter. Please pay the Church on the day

Champagne Reception celebrating the Centenary of the Anglo-Norse Society

This was held on Thursday 15 November 2018 from 11.30 to 13.30 at the In and Out Club, St James Square and was honoured by the presence of both her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and King Harald V of Norway, the two patrons of the Society. It was a splendid occasion enjoyed by all who attended it. The image shows the Queen being shown the Almanac of the history of the Society by Angela Christophersen, watched by King Harald and Sir Richard Dales, the Chairman of the Society.

Festive Lunch with illustrated Talk on The History of the Anglo-Norse Society 1918 to the present

Thursday 18 October 2018 at 12 noon  at the Norwegian Seamen's Church 1 St Olav's Square SE16 7JB

To mark the Centenary of  The Anglo-Norse Society is joining  forces with Kvinneforeningen for a special lunch at the Norwegian Seamen’s Church.  As it is the Society's  Anniversary, it has been decided to celebrate with a Norwegian Koldtbord; ie a Buffet  lunch,  which includes traditional Norwegian smoked salmon served with scrambled eggs in addition to other typical fare on such occasions and not forgetting a birthday “Bløtkake” donated by a benefactor. There will be a raffle to raise funds for the ANS Centenary Scholarship Fund.                                                         

Kvinneforeningen is partly sponsoring this lunch as a birthday present, but ANS members are asked to contribute £ 4 towards the cost (Pay on the day). For catering purposes we need to know numbers  so please tell the Anglo-Norse Secretary if you wish to come.
