I grew up in Norway, but moved
to England when I married a Brit, and have lived in London ever since. Through my 18 years working at
the Norwegian Embassy dealing with Press and Cultural Affairs, I have kept in
touch with Norway both culturally and linguistically. Since leaving the Embassy I have
been teaching a Master course in translation studies at the University of
Surrey. During the summer I teach at the
Summer School of the University of Oslo where I am responsible for a Social
Science Course; "Norwegian Life and Society" in addition to
teaching Norwegian language to overseas students. |

Tim Gilbert |
Editor and Webmaster of http://www.anglo-norse.org.uk Editor of the in-house magazine Anglo-Norse Review |
|
|
|
|
|
I first joined the Anglo-Norse
Society in London in the 1980s and was a member for a couple of years before
moving to Norway with my Norwegian born wife.
After a couple of years we returned to Britain but my work kept me
away from central London and I did not re-join for a few years. I now work near to Moorgate Station for a
Nordic bank, from where I can easily travel to meetings at the Royal
Norwegian Embassy. If there is no Council
meeting before the main meeting I usually walk, contributing to my exercise
if not to the cleanliness of the air I breathe. After expressing opinions that
we should have a web site and an overview of what should be on it I was
invited to do what ever was needed. When the previous Editor of the
Anglo-Norse Review was about to retire in 2006 I was asked whether I would
like to put my name forward. Since becoming editor I have
made minor changes to the layout. All
articles are now submitted to the printers electronically and contributors
are encouraged to send in articles electronically too. We accept articles in English or
Norwegian. Articles in Norwegian are
translated before publishing. We are
about to change printers, which as well as being cheaper, will give us much
more flexibility in layout, with more illustrations and colour
throughout. Also part of the package
will be distribution direct from the printers to our members and members of
the Britisk Norsk Forening, the Anglo Norse Society in Oslo. |
|
The Council |
|
|
|
|
|
|
There is a council that meets about six times a year to
make decisions on the running of the Anglo-Norse Society and ensures that it
keeps to its charitable aims. The
trustees are among the members of the council. |
